FaceTime, video conference calls, live broadcasts… these practices are becoming increasingly widespread, yet video makes heavy use of bandwidth. Although sometimes useful (when close relations live far away, for example), it is better to avoid them, or at least not to make systematic use of them!

There is nothing to prevent you from greeting via video and continuing your call with audio alone.  Since video is essential for lip-reading and sign language, this recommendation obviously does not apply in case of hearing impairment.
