Unplugging unused office equipment

Starting out
Moderate impact
#Energy costs

Unplug unused office equipment whenever possible, in particular at the end of the day and at weekends. It is better to switch it off completely rather than leaving it on standby, which continues to consume energy.

You can equip workstations with on/off multi-socket adaptors in order to make it easier for your colleagues to unplug devices.

At times of peak demand, unplugging your devices and running them on their batteries can have a real impact:

  • This measure is capable of shifting demand on the electricity grid by between 18 and 50 MWh/day, on the basis of 100,000 laptops/mobiles. By way of example: 50 MWh is equivalent to the full power of 5 average onshore wind farms operating for 1 hour).

A NUDGE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

In order to unplug at the right time, use the Ecowatt tool.
