A sustainable equipment purchasing policy

Building on the basics
High impact
#Responsible consumption

Although the purchase of equipment is sometimes essential, think about whether it is possible:

  • To buy reconditioned equipment ⚠️ NB:
    • The economic benefits of buying reconditioned equipment should not be a reason for replacing it more frequently!
    • Above all, if your company has a large stock of IT equipment: it is sometimes easier for a CIO to rely upon the long lifespan of uniform equipment purchased new, with a manufacturer’s warranty: 7 years for a business computer, 9 years for a server.

If you find it necessary to buy new:

  • Give priority to the purchase of equipment that is:
    • Certified: type 1 quality certification issued by an independent third party (e.g. TCO, EPEAT, Energy Star, 80 PLUS, Blue Angel certification, etc.).
    • With a longer lifespan: check the lifespan index
    • Repairable: you can rely upon the repairability index.

A NUDGE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
