Avoid being over-equipped

An effective AND ecologically responsible working environment: yes, it is possible! The first thing to do is to avoid being over-equipped. Did you know that our devices account for most of the environmental impact of digital technology? Not only does the manufacture of our terminals emit greenhouse gases, it also requires significant mineral and water resources. It is estimated, for example, that within 50 years, certain metals essential to the manufacture of our screens will have run out.

A few tips to follow:

  • Avoid using two or three screens for working: for maximum productivity, opt for a single, well-optimised screen instead.
  • Rather than having two smartphones, it is better to choose a dual SIM card! It also simplifies the management of your devices. Do not hesitate to turn down a business smartphone or any other piece of equipment you are offered, if you do not see any real use for it.
  • Adapt the size of your screens to your actual professional needs: reserve large screens for graphic designers, and replace end-of-life television sets with video projectors (which are more economical and environmentally friendly!).
  • Lastly, raise awareness within your organisation about the harmful impact of digital signage, which is sometimes found in companies: numerous resources are required for their manufacture, a great deal of energy is consumed for their use and, at the end of their life, their waste can be harmful to your health!

80%

of digital sector greenhouse gas emissions come from the manufacture of our devices (telephones, PCs, computer screens,TVs, digital signage, etc.)
